Lakeview is one of the highest towns in Oregon. The elevation is 4800 feet, giving rise to our slogan "Tallest Town in Oregon." 2500 people call Lakeview home. We are located at the foot of the Warner Mountains, on the edge of the southeast Oregon high desert. We are also the county seat of Lake County.


The climate in and around Lakeview is generally cool and semi-arid, with nearly 250 days of sunshine a year. Summers are moderate with most daily temperatures in the mid-80's. Winters are cool with daily temperatures in the low 30's. Rain and snow falls in almost every month of the year. Precipitation averages about 16 inches per year.

Abert Lake

A beautiful lake in Lakeview with shrimp feeding over 10,000 waterfowl every year!

Abert Rim

The Abert Rim is more than a quarter mile high. This 30-mile long fault rises 2,000 feet above Lake Abert and is one of the longest exposed fault escarpments in North America.

Christmas Valley Sand Dunes

Amazing, all natural sand dunes, which are primarily made up of ash from the eruption 7,000 years ago of Mount Mazama, which is now better known as Crater Lake. The largest inland moving sand dune system in Oregon and possibly the Pacific Northwest. The dunes cover an area 9 by 5 miles in size, with the highest dunes being 60 feet.

Crack in the Ground

2-mile long, 10-15 foot wide basalt lava fissure, which runs from 10 to 70 feet deep into the earth. At places it is bridged by boulders and winter ice sometimes remains within its depths all year!

Devil's Garden Wilderness Study Area

Includes two spatter cones know as "The Blowouts" and are an interesting volcanic feature right alongside the road leading to Derrick Cave and Ice Cave.

Hot Springs

Hot springs abound around Lake County, and many of them are perfect for soaking.

Old Perpetual Geyser

Visit Oregon's only continuously spouting geyser which shoots a plume of 200 degree water over 60 feet into the air every 90 seconds. A favorite for everyone in Lake County, whether they be traveling through, or a resident.

Summer Lake State Wildlife Area

Take a minutes, or a few hours, to enjoy the serenity at Summer Lake. Excellent auto-tour for waterfowl viewing.

Lake Chewaucan Lake Bed

200 feet deep, 2000 years ago.

Derrick Cave

A lava tube 30 feet high, 50 feet wide and 1/4 mile long. The ceiling has collapsed in two places; one providing foot access into the cave and the other forming a "skylight" for the cave.
